person 1:
What exactly is "Dub Step" ?
It seems to be the new college frat boy douche music of choice.
I'm just wondering what sets it apart from other genres? It just sounds like a bunch of bass.
person 2:
There are two types of Dubstep right now.
This is the original, UK sound of Dubstep from Croydon, London:

Whereas this is the American frat-boy College Dubstep that's popular in the US & Canada:

So you can see what makes it different from other EDM genres. But what makes the British sound different from the current American/Canadian frat sound is that the British sound uses 2-step beats, keeps its reggae/dub roots and the wobble bass is neutral, whereas the latter uses Southern Hip-Hop beats and lots of high-sounding Wobble bass.
Hope that helps. Also read on Dubstep at Wikipedia.
I'm just confused. I thought dubstep would be too weird for the frat boys. But I guess I'm getting old? I did notice that there is a sample of a girl throwing up in the second of the "US/CAN frat dubstep" selections. So I guess it would make sense that frat boys enjoy it.
