1. Kanye West – My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy: This is what I like to call a front to backer. From the mad hatterish “Dark Fantasy” to the noir dance track “Lost in the City”/ “Who Will Survive In America”, there are no bad tracks on this album.
2. Future Island – In Evening Air: I love this album for two reasons the band is from Baltimore and the lead singer sounds like a Victorian Vampire in a new wave band, but in an earnest way. It gives the songs on this album a very dramatic and slightly romantic flair.3. Diamond Rings – Special Affections: Androgyny
and Synths the perfect combination for a perfect new wave album.4. Twin Shadow – Forget: You know another perfect
combination for a perfect new wave album, Melancholy and Synths.
5. No Age – Everything in Between: I like No Age because they seem to combine art and music together very nicely, and seeing them play live this year reminded me of that. Also the album cover is now one of my new favorites.
6. Wavves – King of the Beach: Though the album isn’t quite pop punk, it reminds me of why I like west coast pop punk…oh’s, ah’s, bitterness, and angst. I might have to pull out some Mr. T Experience next year.7. Best Co
ast – Crazy for You: I like this album because it oozes of cuteness (evidence: the lead singer’s cat is on the album cover). This album contains elements that made me fall in love with indie pop, songs about love mixed with nice harmonies.8. Matthew Dear – Black City: From the cover art to the
low end beats this album seems to be shrouded in darkness, yet it’s inviting enough to dance to. Dare I coin a new genre …Dance Noir... or does it already exist.
9. The Walkmen – Lisbon: Consistency, that why I like The Walkmen. These gentlemen always seem to craft beautiful songs about dejection, and Lisbon is no exception10. Crystal Castles – Crystal Castles (II): Mix dance music,
a chunk of punk, some distortion, and a tad bit of Goth and you get Crystal Castles (II).
